AMERICAN IDOL Season 8 — First 2 Finalists Cut

Kelly Clarkson was back in the house! She rocked it hard! Usually when previous contestants come on, they put me to sleep so fast I wonder if I have narcolepsy. But Kelly belted out “My Life Would Suck Without You” with such awesomeness, I shuddered thinking about how Justin Guarini almost wrested the Idol crown from her. Our lives would suck if she’d never been allowed to unleash her power on us.

OK, on to the business of eliminating people. Ryan revealed the new rule called the Judges’ Save, which can only be used once to save one person from elimination if they think America got it wrong that week. The choice has to be unanimous and can only be done up until the top 5 round.

It was obvious the judges would save their Save and not use it tonight. They wouldn’t just neuter themselves by giving away their new veto power so soon. So Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez were out of luck, though each sang their hearts out as if they even had a chance of convincing the judges to overrule America’s decision. I completely agree with Jasmine going home, but not sure it was Jorge’s time. C’mon, Michael and Scott were way more boring than the Latin crooner.

Speaking of boring, next week is “Opry Week.” Translation: country music. My right eye is starting to twitch just thinking about Scott doing “BBQ Stain” or some mess like that.

Did you agree with the public vote? Should the judges have saved Jasmine or Jorge? Comment away!

  1. I love that you didn’t even bother to mention the annoying Kanye West!

  2. I agree with Jasmine going home. She’s pretty, but just not passionate enough and really disconnected to what she’s singing. She’s still young, she’ll have another shot. Sad about Jorge. Blind Boy was better? Nope, America got it wrong.

They did get it right on Adam Lambert though! He is sooooo yummy! I can’t wait to see what he wears next.

  3. I wouldn’t have mentioned Kanye either, PCN.

He’s just not good…or maybe I just don’t get him. Is Kelly pregnant? I’m just saying….

Three should have gone last night. If Blind Boy was a better singer, I could overlook his dancing, but come on…

    • EireGo,

Why are you picking on Kelly’s weight? She’s proven she got to where she is on talent, not because she dieted and peroxided and Botoxed herself into some cookie-cutter Barbie doll.

And I don’t like Scott’s singing, either, but picking on his dancing is unfair, considering he can’t see very well. I was concerned he might trip on the steps or fall off the stage. I hope the producers have good liability insurance…

  4. When an established recording star performs on show in which the competition is all about becoming an established recording star, shouldn’t they be the recording star be awesome? Or at least show everyone how it’s done/why they are a star? Neither Kanye or Kelly showed that last night.

    For me anyway.

  5. I’m with ARB, I think the judges should critique the performances of the established acts as well. Wouldn’t it be hilarious for Simon to comment on Kanye West’s performance? Or at least his outfit? I would make a MUCH better show!

    • Oh my gosh, that would’ve been hilarious. We’d need a whole hour just to hear the judges break down all that was wrong with Kanye’s performance.

  6. I don’t like the show anymore, but I am glad Tatiana isn’t still on.

In my book, Blind Guy and Adam Lambert should be gone next, but I know that will never happen.

  7. Geez, Reader9, THE GUY IS LEGALLY BLIND! Pick on Gokey’s dancing!

Kelly Clarkson’s not that big. However, Lil Rounds looked like she had two midgets in each of her back pockets.

  8. Well, I think a bit of booty’s refreshing to see. There should be more of it … as long as they are healthy and fit as well, then good for them.

The judges’ save is an interesting twist. In our last season of Australian Idol, they changed the format so the bottom three per the phone votes got to sing again at the very beginning of Monday night’s show, then voting lines were re-opened for another half hour or whatever it was, and those votes were added to the existing votes to decide who’d go. It was designed to try and get around those really odd freaky eliminations that happen here at least once or twice a season. If you know your fave is at high risk, you get another chance to spend money. {Kaching.} It worked, based on my choices anyway.
